Our area of the state is simply gorgeous. Western Kentucky offers so many interesting roadways and landscapes. If you’re fortunate enough to drive a motorcycle, this is a terrific time to get out and explore the sites. Having ridden street bikes for many years, I know firsthand that, unfortunately, not every trip goes as planned. Motorcycle wrecks can result in significant injuries.
As an experienced motorcycle wreck attorney in Western Kentucky, I’ve helped many riders and their families to recover and get back on the road. Most people that ride motorcycles have experienced close calls because drivers of vehicles do not look closely and turned or pulled out in front of a motorcyclist.
Motorcyclists have a right to share the road with other drivers. However, in Kentucky, they may not have the same insurance coverage as other drivers.
Kentucky insurance carriers offer personal injury protection (“PIP”) benefits, which provide $10,000 in coverage for lost wages and medical, in addition to the other insurance policy coverages. This is especially important when the other driver either has limited insurance, or is driving without insurance. This coverage is mandatory for other types of motor vehicles in Kentucky. However, PIP coverage is optional coverage for a motorcyclist. In fact, you will likely have to request this coverage to have PIP coverage as part of a motorcycle policy. Not every rider decides to do this. In an effort to save a few dollars, they could be risking significant funds in the event of a motorcycle wreck.
Consider the fact that if a collision requires you to spend a few days in the hospital, your medical bills could easily climb to thousands of dollars. This doesn’t take into account the lost wages, rehab and repairs to your bike.
Having the right types of insurance coverage can really make a difference, especially if the at-fault driver is underinsured. As a personal injury attorney who handles motorcycle wrecks, I’ve seen the damage that results. I can work quickly to file the claims, but sometimes that’s not enough.
I’ve spoken at many seminars about injuries and handling injury cases. Those involving a motorcycle wrecks are unique and must be handled carefully. I work with accident victims in Calloway, Christian, Graves, Marshall, McCracken, Trigg and other Kentucky counties. If you’ve been injured in a motorcycle wreck, contact an experienced injury attorney.
